Just before the beginning of the fashion month, Pier and I decided to enjoy our last week end and go somewhere in the mountains as an escape from this terrible hot days of September.
We started to think about a mountain location not so far from us and immediately our thoughts were about Cervinia, but we’ve visited that little village several times and since we wanted to be in a new place we decided that this time we should see Cervino from a different point of view, so not from the Italian side ( Cervinia ) but from the Switzerland side, so Zermatt!
We quickly packaged our hand luggage and made a reservation in a Hotel. After 3 hours of drive we arrived in Tasch, the closest city to Zermatt and left our car in the parking since Zermatt is a car-free city!
Yes, there are no cars in the city, almost, because there severals Taxis, and hotel cars to pick up the tourist at the train station, but all of them are electrical! And now, can you immagine the air? Yes, it’s heaven!
The train from Tasch to Zermatt runs every 20 minutes, without a second of delay ( you know when you talk about Switzerland, everything is perfect and on time!) and arrive at the station ( center of the city) where your Hotel car or Taxi can pick you up and bring you to your hotel or apertment. Our lovely owner in a couple of minutes were already there!
Usually we prefer the apartment to the hotel and if it has to be a hotel it should be a little one! In the city there are so many hotels and apartments that it wouldn’t be difficult to find your perfect one!
Our hotel was Hotel Welschen, a very cute one with just 17 rooms and a very adorable interior design! I was really proud, cause this hotel was my choice which I made in around 2 minutes, the time it took me to do the reservation on booking!
It was so cute, so cosy and adorable that I really would love to spent there a couple of days more, and the view over Matterhorn from our room was amazing, I could see it even from the bed!
Zermatt is a real jewel of a city! All the houses are really pretty in typical mountain style, with wood and flowers all over. There are 30 wood little houses from 16 and 17 century, which were used as the houses for cows and sheep during winter.
It’s very beautiful in every corner of the city, so don’t limit yourself to the central way but get lost in those tiny streets.
The city is full of restaurants and bars, despite all the mountains city where we’ve been where the restaurants closes their kitchen at 9.30, here you can find them open until 2am, ready to cook for you something traditional or european style dishes or to serve you a cold beer ( or a glass of local wine!)!
We spent there just a week end and we wanted to take it easy so all the walks we do, were pretty easy and not more than 3 hours. There are many lakes around, and so much beautiful nature to see.
Don’t miss the Haengebrueckenweg, a suspension bridge over the Gornera river, the view and the feeling are awesome and you fill of adrenaline, but don’t go there if you suffer the high!

What a wonderful place! And congrats on the pictures, the light is wonderful. We were planning a trip to Zermatt for this Winter but at the end we ended up booking our stay in our beloved Cortina d’Ampezzo. We always come back to Cortina… we can’t help it!

Oh yes, Cortina is such a beautiful place as well. If I have to suggest you something close, really try to go to Corvara, it’s so beautiful but the vibes are different from Cortina.
